A christmas without knitting

There has been no knitting at all this christmas. My fingers are itching for some knit and purls. I have serious thoughts about ripping up an old cardigan. It is too big, and I have found a lovely pattern in "Ingelise", a swedish magazine.

Nobody gave me any gifts wtih knitting content. *sob* I do not mind, not at all. I got so many beautiful things. My beloved gave me a silver necklace and bracelet, and they are absolutely wonderful. I gave him a gift certificate for a footmassage. A lovely session, or so I thought... He looked rather pale and revealed that he could not imagine anyone (but me) to touch his feet. Oh dear, I need to find something that suits him better - and fast!

oh dear

The "body" of my little multicoloured bag was actually finished a few days ago. It lies on a heap of yarn waiting for me to make something of it. It is just that... it does not resemble a bag. It is more like a tube or a hat. My daughter definitely thinks it is a hat.

I am dreaming of a christmas full of lovely yarn. I hope my christmaspresents contains material related to knitting.

My next "big" project will be a guernsey (or maybe an aran) for my special someone. This will probably take me a year, being a slow knitter, but I do not mind. I am in full search for some nice wool. Any recommendations?

A new beginning

And a new project. I cast on for a small bag with stripes in many different shades of red. I am trying to make up the pattern as I go along. I know this is not a very good idea. I cannot help myself. It is a bit like getting to know a new acquaintance. For the first couple of hours I am not sure if I will make a friend or foe.

It does a good job in keeping me from thinking too much about work. And all those little chores my boss will have invented for me when I come back to work om monday. *aargh* My kid has been sick for a week. I worry, I am the kind (of, mother, daughter, friend, colleague and lover) that worry.

Knitting is a kind of meditation for me. I am not fond of knitting while watching TV. I want my knitting to be either all-consuming or fast and productive.

Red mohair for christmas

Nice progress on a new "Katja Scarf"! This time in the finest mohair I could find. When I fold it together it actually fits in the palm of my hand, and it is still warming. Mohair is amazing. I might be able to make another scarf before christmas. A blue one.
ball of red mohair and an almost finished scarf

Or I might start on a multistriped bag. I have been gathering some ideas from some great knitters all over the web. Now I know how I want it to look like. I have at least decided how to start, what needles to use and what colour to start with.

Sweet Mohair

I seem to be into mohair these days. I came out with some Kidsilk Mohair after a visit to the yarnshop. My mother will be warm and nice in a red mohair scarf. Well, that is what I hope for. It is a quick project anyhow, and I can guarantee it as a christmaspresent. I wish I did not have to work these days, just sit around knitting and shop fo gifts. I want to develop my knitting skills, but it takes time and effort to accomplish. My house is full of intended socks - without heels and toes! Anyone need any leg or wristwarmers?

Too little knitting and too much partying

I was looking forward to a Knit In at Gunga Din in St. Paulsgatan in Stockholm. I wanted to meet up withsome nice knittingpeople, chat  a bit and learn some stuff about knitting socks. But I am cursed. I read Saturday and remembered Sunday, just because that suited me better. I took my tiny daugther by the hand and went, just to look at a closed door and a dark room full of yarn.

I blame my poor memory on last weeks parties. My best friends wedding was a ton of fun, and made me dance again. I have not danced like that for... eh, years... probably four or five of them. Lots of dancing, lots of drinks, lots of laughter.

And yesterday we held a birthdayparty at home. No dancing, no drinks, but still lots of laugther. And a fishpond full of candy.

I am ready to commit myself for some serious knitting again.
