Nordic Secret Friend

Look what I got from my first Nordic Secret Friend, Carita in Finland! Amazing. I will probably knit a little something for my daughter from this yarn. The pink yarn is Novita Bambino, and the blue is Konepestävä Maija. But there is more, a very yummy irish cream tasting chocholatebar and a handy measuring tape. A thousand thank you, Carita.

Changes

I have made some changes to the layout of my blog. Hope you like it!

The Storm sweater is slowly progressing. I have knitted about five 10 centimeters since my last posting. But there are so much lovely yarn distracting me from my current project(s)! For example, I saw a pair of beautiful pink mittens at the local yarnstore "Nysta". They are striped in pink wool and pink Noro yarn. I like stripes, I like pink colours and I instantly fell in love with the Noro yarn. First encounter and all.

I have not started the mittens yet. I am actually crappy at knitting mittens. But I walk by my yarns (Yes, of course I had to bring them home. I had to!) every once in a while.

Instead I started on a dress for my daughter. She desperately wants to be a princess, but everything she tries on it too big for her. She persuaded me to knit her a tank top, and onto the top we will attach a pink skirt. Tyra also wished for long hair for christmas, her own hair is only maybe an inch long. As you all know, it is impossible to grow long hair that fast. But she got what she wished for!

Violent storm, strong winds

Me and my daughter were stuck in my mothers cottage. We made all preparations necessary for surviving the blizzard, and settled inside this tiny, cosy little cottage. But I must have been kind of skittish. I had just finished the "vintage" scarf. All I had in my bag was a skein of blue mohair (Vivaldi) and two pairs of circular needles in different sizes. I cast on and listened to the howling of the wind as the night set in.

Since then I carry this heap around in my home, and I do not know how to proceed with it. At least, it deserves to be introduced to you. I call it the Storm-sweater.

Soft fitted scarf

I wanted a relatively small fitted scarf in "vintage style". It's made in bordeaux red mohair. This scarf fits nicely around my neck and shoulders. I'm working on the pattern, and will post it here if anyone is intrested. I plan to fasten the scarf with a knitted flower.

I have also started on a blue sweater in mohair, inspired by the "Fifi scarf". You can find the scarf on Pahinen blogi - Barely a blog. More about the progress on the sweater later...

Tsunami

The horrible numbers of destruction in Asia are slowly sinking in. There are thousands of swedish tourist among the "missing people list". I am lucky enough not to know any deceased, but they are still friends of friends, and friends of relatives. I do not know what to do, but to give what little I have and to hug my daughter a little longer every day.

My heart, my thoughts and my prayers go to the victims of the tsunami.
